By now, we’ve all heard about the crisis in Syria. It’s been dominating the news.
We’ve heard a lot about the political implications of interventions into the civil war. But beneath the debates, beneath the possible scenarios and their possible consequences, there are many, many Syrians in need of humanitarian assistance.
More than six million people are displaced within Syria. And nearly two million Syrian refugees are living in parts of Jordan, Lebanon, Iraq, Turkey and countries in North Africa. [source]
Like most displaced populations, these millions of people lack power, water and basic supplies, like hygiene materials. Their living environment — for both now and the future — is not secure.
Lutheran World Relief has been working with partners to reach out to families with Quilts and Kits. Since October 2011, LWR has provided more than $7 million in aid that has reached more than 337,000 people. (Updated Sep 9, 2016)

As the situation develops, we continue to work with our partners in the ACT Alliance, a global coalition of church agencies engaged in development, humanitarian response and advocacy. LWR’s response to the Syrian crisis will be carried out with our ACT partners to ensure a well-coordinated response that gets aid on the ground to the people who need it.
If you would like to help us respond to the crisis in Syria, there are several things you can do:
- Pray for the people of Syria, the governments of the nations of the world and for the humanitarian organizations and workers reaching out to those affected.
- Make LWR Quilts & Kits. We are in need of Quilts and Kits right now to fulfill needs around the world. Your Quilt & Kit donations ensure we have what we need to respond to this and other world crises.
As we pray together for peace and resolution in Syria, thank you for your support of Lutheran World Relief.
