Final Day – LWR Road Trip

Greetings to Our Savior's in Sioux Falls

Well, we’re on our way back to Minneapolis, on our final leg of the journey. Over these nine days through seven states, we have truly met amazing folks and had many laughs. The variety of people we ended up meeting with was my favorite part of the road trip. From 4-year-olds to quilters, from first-ring suburbs to farms, the faces we met along the way brought joy to our whole car.

Today we had a busy morning, bringing greetings to the four services at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Applause, laughter and great energy came to us from Our Savior’s. We had great conversation with folks between services, but had to jump immediately into our car after the later services to drive as quickly as possible to Appleton, Minnesota.

Area congregations had gathered at the county fair grounds for a zone gathering around the theme, “Little Things Make Big Differences.” John spoke and answered questions about Lutheran World Relief and the Lutheran Malaria Initiative. Again, the energy from the people we met was wonderful. They typified what this whole trip has been.

What a fun time this week was. Having the opportunity to meet sweet, loving folks and bring them stories of how they are helping farmers in developing countries work themselves out of long-term poverty was unbelievable.

Thank you to everyone who helped us set up these visits, for following and responding to our requests on Facebook. Thank you to the staff who supported us on this trip, but who didn’t get to come along. And finally, thank you especially for everyone we met along the way. You are the reason we are able to do the work that we do: ending poverty, injustice and human suffering.  We praise God every time we think of you!
