Page 7a: Stories You may have Missed

As March Madness madness whittles its way down to the Sweet Sixteen, and Peyton Manning and Tim Tebow find new teams to quarterback, it’s a good week to be a sports fan. There are plenty of surprises and excitement to keep us talking for months. But when that one shining moment begins to fade, what will we have missed from around the world?

Here are this week’s stories, excavated from page 7a:

  • More Kony2012: In response to the popularity of Invisible Children’s viral video, a UN official says, “”We would prefer the focus on the children and the funding going to the children, rather than focusing purely on a military solution.”
  • The Importance of Birth Certificates: No, we’re not talking about President Obama. For many indigenous people around the world, accessing education and other services is nearly impossible, as illustrated by this story of Baka Pygmies in Cameroon.
  • Coup in Mali: A military coup overthrew the government in Bamako yesterday. Mali has been considered a stable democracy for 20 years.
  • World Water Day: March 22 was World Water Day. Here are some reasons to care.
  • Water and Sanitation: There are more people with mobile phones than people with toilets, and why that number matters.
  • The Politics of Water: The New York Times reports that problems with water may not just lead to greater poverty, but could prove to be a threat to national security.

Hello. We have chosen LWR clean water as our mission this year at VBS. How can I get info to pass out/use during the week? I have printed out somethings from your website. Including your prayer, loved that!
    thanks!
