Everything we do at Lutheran World Relief is in response to the love that God has shown us through Jesus Christ. I first learned the words of 1 John 4 in a song at Bible Camp as a child:
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God and everyone who loveth is born of God and knoweth God. He that loveth not, knoweth not God, for God is love. Beloved, let us love one another.
And if reading the words doesn’t get the song stuck in your head for the rest of the day, this reggae version certainly will:
These verses reflect why our tagline is “Sustainable Development. Lasting Promise.” Sustainable development, because we strive to attack the roots of poverty. The lasting promise is in response to God’s lasting promise of unending love.
God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them. Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness on the day of judgment, because as he is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear; for fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not reached perfection in love. We love because he first loved us.
What fear does God’s love cast out in your life?
