Ever wonder what kind of an impact your quilt has? Here’s a story that’ll inspire you!
In 1995, Esther Thomas received a quilt from Lutheran World Relief during first Liberian Civil War.
After more stability returned to Liberia, Esther deconstructed the quilt to make a dress that she could wear for her job interviews. In 2005, Esther started working with the Lutheran Training Institute to provide teacher training for schools. After working with LWF, Esther was inspired to work toward Liberia’s development. Currently she is employed by the Liberian Ministry of Health and Public Welfare, to establish a decentralized system of birth registration throughout Liberia.
Esther is very grateful to the quilters that made the quilts for her family. “I want to tell the people who’ve made quilts for our community what kind of an impact they had. I want to thank them very deeply. For many years, the quilts have served us very well and they are well put together with really good quality cloth. People ask me where my dress came from and I say that I got it from my friends in America!”
